Dirty Minimal #1.1 — Straight Cut Corrected by Wood Structure

Holzbalken wurden mit einer Axt aus einem Baumstamm gehauen. Dabei sollten Balken mit geraden Seiten entstehen, um in der Minimal Form eines geraden Quaders die grobe Holzstruktur hervorzuheben. Dieses Vorhaben scheiterte: die Balken waren unregelmässig in sich gedreht. Aber die Arbeit war ein Erfolg auf andere Weise: die Form der Skulptur war das Resultat von sowohl Konzept als auch interner Materialeigenschaften. Dies markiert den Beginn der bewussten Suche danach, was Konzepte in der Realität bewirken: Dirty Minimal.

Las vigas de madera fueron cortadas de un tronco de cerezo con un hacha. El resultado intencionado era obtener vigas con lados rectos, con el fin de enfatizar la estructura de madera áspera sobre la forma mínimal de una viga recta. Esta intención falló: la forma final salió irregularmente enroscada. Pero el trabajo era un éxito de otro modo: la forma de la escultura era un resultado tanto de la acción intencionada como de las propiedades interiores del material. Este suceso marca el principio de una búsqueda consciente de lo que ocurre si conceptos abstractos son aplicados en la realidad y por eso el inicio del Dirty Minimal.

Wood beams had been cut out from a cherry tree trunk with an axe. The intended result had been beams with straight sides, in order to emphasize the rough wood structure over the minimal form of a straight beam. This intention had failed: the final shape came out to be irregularly twisted. But the work became a success in another way: The form of the sculpture was a consequence of both the intended action and the inner properties of the material. This occurence has marked the start of a conscious search for what happens when abstract concepts are applied in reality, and therefore the beginning of Dirty Minimal.
